The CALVARY Book

SPECIAL THANKS

To: Ray Morgan, Alan Thompson, Tye Dove Gardner, Laurie Lacomb and the magnificent souls who shared their testimonies in this book, and to all of you who are now given the opportunity to write your own testimony at the end of this book, give it to someone in pain and become part of their healing process. Ray introduced me to Alan who was the ex-junkie I spent three looking for. Tye has been my Jesus model from the very beginning and has never acted in a way that caused me regret for choosing him. Laurie was my wife's assistant. She became our friend as well. For my wife, Cindy and my children who have always been a part of ART for GOD. Thanks to Robin and Edwin for letting us stay in their home in Culebra to work on the book for 5 weeks. Ann Banta for her testimony and for transcribing the testimonies. Thanks to Carolyn Jones, Robyn Camuglia, David and Lisa Lee for coming into our lives as the precisely the right moment. Thank you Tom Choquette for your many years of encouragement. Thanks to my parents Joanne and Dave and to Cindy’s parents, Don and Irene. I would also like to thank Pastor Rock. As an ex-addict Pastor Rock was going to be the original junkie in the painting. It was his passion for those battling with drug addiction that was the final catalyst God used to show me the image that became the painting.
I don’t know where you are but I pray you are OK.

FOREWARD

If, as Christians, we really believe that drug addictions have a spiritual solution
then we best be sure we know the source of the problem.
I offer these ideas as a man searching for answers just outside the conventional library of thought.

This book contains a series of questions and testimonies.
The questions exist to intrigue, inspire, and if necessary, inflame the reader to see the roots of addiction differently.
The testimonies are a powerful and revealing gift from those who have been through devastating pain and abuse and who now praise God for His presence throughout their ordeal, even though it may not have always been as obvious then, as it is now. This site has samples from several chapters. Below are the complete contents within the book.

DEDICATION

This book is also dedicated to the unfailing cause of truth. And no higher truth can be known than the life and teachings of Jesus. He taught us how to treat each other. He showed us what God is really like and what love really is.  Jesus demonstrated with every word and deed what a normal life might be like. And I assert that to be “normal” is a higher reality than anything we have yet experienced on earth.  I also declare that it is our divine destiny to become normal.

We must find our way through the maze of confusing beliefs attached to the flawless teachings of the Son of God. My final and most important dedication is that this book is for the reader because you are the hope and future.  No matter how old you are, no matter what color your skin is, not matter what your economic status is, no matter what that the world may show you as your weaknesses and failures.

Jesus told us we were children of God. Now it is our time to learn how to act like it.

This book does not suggest any professional course of treatment nor offer its contents as professional therapy. This book is a written exploration of the life experiences and thoughts of the author and artist, Stephen Sawyer, which were the foundation of the painting CALVARY.
